A new Web-based tool has been established to help Sherlockians/Holmesians around the world get in touch with each other. The Sherlockians Around the World map is entirely interactive, so you can add your name, photo, make comments, edit your scion society contact information (including adding a Web address if appropriate). It works for individual Sherlockians as well as Sherlockian societies, and Sherlockian sites of interest.
Below is a series of questions to help you with the map. If you would like a guided tour of the map, simply click here.
1. What is Frappr?
Frappr is an interactive map that allows you to see where friends and colleagues are, around the world. The Sherlockians Around the World Frappr map contains information about nearly 300 Sherlockian societies, and Sherlockians/Holmesians are continually adding themselves to the map as individuals.
2. Is there any cost to use it?
No. Frappr is entirely free. You can register for an account simply by sharing your name, zip code and a valid email address.
3. I can't find my local Sherlockian society. Where is it?
It's there. At the bottom of the map, you can control the number of "markers" that are shown. Simply click on "show more markers" to see more. Zoom in to see your geographical area in detail. In addition, using the Map Markers section to the right of the map (see screenshot above), you can see a listing of members and of places. Sort by name or location and you can find what you're looking for. Similar to the map, you can expand the number of people or places listed.
4. How do I edit my society's information? Can I add a society myself?
Any member of Frappr can add a society. Feel free to add yours, including a Web address if you have one. If you need to update information on your society, simply make a note in the Forum section of the map and the administrator will delete the existing one and allow you to create a new one (or will edit the original per your instructions).
5. I know I'll be traveling to an area with a Sherlockian society. How can I tell if that society has a meeting planned during that time?
Great question! You can cross-reference the map with the Sherlockian Calendar. There are two versions: a single page listing of all events, and a Web-based calendar with links, RSVP and contact information. We have a set of FAQs about the calendar as well.
If you have additional questions that you would like to see added to the FAQ, please let us know.
